Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an ode to the traditional sextet style and a more consistent, stronger effort with a harder edge. Its edgier sound reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's improved ability on the drums and an improved, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more precise, sharper and less cloying than earlier recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the band recorded their Amsterdam live performance that was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. The studio album came out shortly after, and the group went on a long-distance tour in support of it. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
