World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a key aspect of preparing your character. Upgrades boost the base damage and enchantments of items.

They also provide bonus effects and improvements. The Blacksmith can also sell them to you.

The upgrade button is available on any item. Every item recycled adds level to the gauge for upgrading.

Weapon

When the weapon is upgraded it will gain a base damage bonus as well as an increase in the scaling factor that affects other stats. The weapon can also gain a variety of upgrade components that provide additional attributes or effects, and some have unique cosmetic effects. These upgrades can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets and gathering tools. Most require that the item is equipped with an upgrade slot and meet certain specifications. If a weapon piece features an upgrade component within it, it is able to be upgraded however the prior upgrade will be destroyed (except for legendary equipment and upgrades). Upgrade components can be retrieved with the help of a Black-Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool, or using a high-tier salvage tool on the item the Best item upgrader.

In addition to the normal upgrades, a weapon may be upgraded using a Calibration Attribute that improves certain stats like Weakspot Damage or Crit Rate. This can be done through the Gear Workbench's interaction menu. Based on the level of the weapon the process can be repeated up to four times.

When the weapon reaches its maximum level of upgrade and is then rebuilt to add additional bonuses and effects or improve specific stats. A variety of these upgrades can be applied simultaneously, and the effects are based on the rarity of the weapon.

Generally, it is recommended to upgrade weapon damage first, followed by armor defense, and finally the other secondary stats that are required by your build. In particular, it's common to see melee druids enhancing their weapon before they upgrade any other gear, because it will increase DPS. This is especially applicable to enchantments, which are extremely efficient in increasing the weapon's damage and other stats.

Armor

Item Upgrades let players increase the stats base of certain pieces of armor, weapons, trinkets and gathering tools. They can also provide additional effects such as increased damage or cosmetic enhancements. Item Upgrades are available by crafting, purchasing from NPC vendors and loot drop, or as quest rewards.

The armor can be upgraded by visiting the Armorer NPC and spending appropriate currency. In the majority of cases, a piece of armor will be upgraded to the next level once an upgrade is applied. This can be done for most types of armor, however some items cannot be upgraded in any way (such as the starter armor in Great Sky Island).

Most armor upgrades offer some improvement to an item's defense base or strength. However, certain upgrade components can provide significant improvements in strength or defense, particularly when upgrading an epic item upgrader.

In addition to enhancing the defense base of an item upgrade, a few upgrades also provide special abilities that can be activated when wearing an armor. These abilities can be helpful in combat, such as giving a boost to attack speed or blocking. Certain upgrades can have effect that are passive and can be useful for example, reducing damage while wearing armor or enhancing the chance of avoiding an attack.

Based on the type of armor, upgrading an item upgrade could require multiple attempts. If a player wants to upgrade Steelclash armor to Dragonscale The first attempt will result in a brand new Dragonscale armor that has an armor base defense of 59-67. The second attempt will result in a brand new Dragonscale armor with a base defense between 67-77, and the list goes on.

Potion

A potion can be upgraded by putting it in a brewing stand to unlock new effects. The upgrade unlocks a new level of effects from the potion and can be re-used to increase the potency.

The potion also gets a custom color code, that the player can pick using /give and which affects area-of-effect clouds and arrows generated by the potions. In Bedrock Edition, the custom color code of the potion is also applied to the effects of the particles in the potions.

The water bottle, mundane and thick potions as well as awkward potions, now have a distinct brewing texture. Add potion of weakness and healing potion to the Creative inventory.
